PLAIN
& SIMPLE Mick,
My Northern soul story is a plain and simple one. I just went to the internet (my
information source) to find out what this Northern soul was all about. A term that no one
here could define. I am 46 years old and from the USA. I have listened to R&B all my
life and especially liked the Motown Sound. The only songs I knew of were the ones
popularly played on the radio stations. During the past few years I grew tired of hearing
the same songs and started to seek out B-sides and album cuts of the more popular
artist. The seeds were planted for my quest to listen to even more obscure and rare songs.
It is surprising how many great tracts were overlooked. A number of times I saw mention of
Northern soul in Goldmine magazine and had to find out what it was. It seemed to always be
associated with Motown in some way so my interest was peaked. Thanks to people like you
Mick, who were nice enough to share your interest, I not only discovered what Northern
soul was but have also become a fan of this music forever. I only wish that during
the sixties I had an opportunity to have gone to an
allnighter. My favorite Northern tracts are Thelma Houston's Baby Mine and Rubin
Parker's You Been Gone. I was hoping you could put Rubin Parker back on your sight
permanently.
Thanks,
Bill |
